URINE SOILING CLEANING

Pet urine can cause permanent damage to your floor and fabrics. It can also create an unhealthy indoor environment. When urine is first deposited onto a floor or fabric, it is in an almost neutral state; which means it’s easier to remove when fresh. Once it dries, it turns alkaline and becomes more difficult to remove. If left for days or weeks, depending on the fabric or floor type, it will permanently change the dye structure, therefore causing permanent staining. Even if the soluble deposit are removed, the damage to the dye structure may already be done.

THIS MEANS THAT NO ONE CAN GUARANTEE COMPLETE REMOVAL OF ALL URINE SPOTS. PLEASE CONSULT WITH YOUR TECHNICIAN IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONABLE URINE SPOTS ON YOUR CARPET.

To prevent permanent staining in the future, clean urine spots immediately by blotting with a white terry towel cloth or plain white paper towels until no moisture is transferred. To clean the spot, mix 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water and massage (don’t scrub) into the spot with a white terry cloth. Once you have flushed as much of the urine out as possible, blot with dry cloths until dry to the touch. If you have a small extraction machine, flush with fresh water until spot is removed.

DO NOT USE OVER THE COUNTER, GENERAL SPOTTERS OR ETRACTION DETERGENT. USE ONLY THOSE PRODUCTS RECOMMENDED BY A CLEANING PROFESSIONAL.

Note: Cleaning existing urine spots will not remove any associated odor. In fact, cleaning could increase the odor in the air space for a temporary period of time. Professional Pet Odor Removal Services are available.

HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR CARPET

When it comes to maintaining your carpet, one of the most critical areas of focus are the traffic areas. If ground in soil is not removed on a regular basis, the traffic areas will begin to wear excessively. The dirt is extremely abrasive against the fibers of the carpet as you walk back and forth on it.

WARNING

By not maintaining your carpeting properly, you could experience one or more of the following:

1. Warranty voided; 2. Rapid re-soiling; 3. Damage to fibers in traffic areas; 4. Unremovable spots; 5. Short life of carpet.

Entrance Mats

Using entrance mats inside and outside of doorways will reduce the amount of soil brought onto your carpet. As much as 75% of the dirt and grime in your carpet is tracked-in soil.

Vacuuming

Vacuum your carpet often. Once or twice a week at least. Vacuuming removes the sharp soil that can cut and slice the fiber causing premature wear. Much of this soil is not visible to the eye. Vacuum before the carpet looks soiled. Remove any loose particles such as loose food, leaves, pieces of crayon, bugs, etc. as these items can cause a spot on the carpet.

Professional cleaning as a general rule, professional cleaning by a professional, certified firm, should take place about one per year. MANY STAIN RESIST WARRANTIES REQUIRE PROFESSIONAL CLEANING EVERY 6 TO 24 MONTS. (Depending on your traffic level.) Have your carpeting cleaned by a professional at least every 12 months. If you have extremely heavy traffic areas, clean more often. Rule of thumb: If there is any visible soil whatsoever on the carpet, it is time to be cleaned. For extremely heavy traffic areas, cleaning may be required more often. Proper professional cleaning will not leave a sticky residue behind and can be done as many times per year as needed.

Professional cleaning removes the damaging soil from the traffic areas that vacuuming has not been able to remove. WARNING: UNINFORMED CARPET CLEANERS MAY VOID THE WARRANTY, BE VERY SELECTIVE WHICH COMPANY YOU HIRE. Most manufacturers recommend hot water extraction applied with a truck mounted cleaning machine, by a trained professional.

Protective Coatings

Residential carpets are treated with stain resist properties and soil resistors. The soil resistor part is known as Dupont Teflon or 3M Scotchguard. After a period of 2 to 3 years, much of the soil-resistor wears off, depending on traffic. At that point you should consider having a professional carpet cleaner re-apply the treatment after professional cleaning. The soil resistor will help the soil slide off of the carpet easier when vacuuming, spots will be easier to remove, and professional cleaning will be more effective the next time it is cleaned.
